Things to Consider When Designing Your Custom Paper Cup

5 Things to Consider When Designing Your Custom Cup

Designing a custom paper cup is one of the simplest ways to boost your brand visibility, but to get the best results, there are a few key things to keep in mind. From artwork quality to print setup, here are five things every café, events team or business should consider before sending their design to print.

1. Start With High-Quality Artwork

Whether you’re adding a colourful illustration or a bold, minimalist logo, starting with high-resolution artwork is essential. Blurry, pixelated graphics will always show up on the final product, so we recommend supplying vector files (such as AI, EPS or PDF) wherever possible.

If you’re not sure whether your artwork meets print requirements, don’t worry, our team can check everything for you.

2. Make Use of Our Free Design Service

Not everyone has an in-house designer, and that’s completely fine. We offer a free design service to help bring your ideas to life. Whether you need help placing your logo, choosing colours, or creating a full wrap-around design, our design team will work with you to create something that reflects your brand perfectly.

Best of all, you only sign off when you’re 100% happy.

3. Consider How Your Cup Will Be Used

Think about who will be holding your cup, and where.
Are your customers grabbing a quick coffee on the go? Sitting inside? Taking pictures for social media?

This will help you decide:

  • Where your logo should sit
  • Whether you need a bold centre graphic
  • If you want extra elements like social icons or a QR code
  • How busy or minimal the design should be

The more intentional the placement, the stronger the brand impact.

4. Keep Your Branding Consistent

Your cup design should feel instantly recognisable.
Stick to:

• Your brand colours – we can even match to Pantones or colour-match in house to anything you have, such as existing marketing materials.
• Your chosen fonts
• Your usual illustration or photography style

Consistency builds trust and makes your brand feel more professional, especially when customers see your cups out in the wild.

5. Did You Know Your Artwork Has to Be Warped?

Here’s a fun fact that surprises most people:
Any text, logos or images printed on a paper cup have to be warped by a specific percentage.

Why?
Because cups are printed flat, then formed into shape. If we printed everything perfectly straight on the flat template, once the cup is folded and rolled, the artwork would look distorted.

Warping compensates for the curve, meaning that when the cup is formed, everything appears perfectly straight, exactly as you intended.

Our team handles all of this for you, ensuring your final cup looks spot-on every time.
